Background: Relief for the famine-stricken province of Kasai in the Congo... further supplies of food for Kasai were loaded recently a board the "African Pilot" at three United States ports, --Baltimore, Philadelphia and Norfolk.
The cargo totalled nearly 2,000 tons of corn meal and rice. Earlier this year, the United Nations organized a big airlift of food and medical supplies into Kasai, where at one stage people were reported to be dying of starvation at the rate of 200 each day.
