Background: Brussels -- centre of a royal crisis since allegations of "interference in affairs of State" by Ex-King Leopold, father of King Baudouin; and controversy over Prince Albert's forthcoming marriage --- was filmed by VISNEWS May 26.

Belgian Cabinet Ministers are shown entering Parliament to discuss the royal residence problem, prior to ex-King Leopold's decision to quit the Royal Palace of Laeken.

Ex-King Leopold's announcement May 26 to move from the Palace comes after recent Government allegations of interference by him and his wife, Princess Liliane, in state affairs. The ex-King's departure, most people feel, may help solve this aspect o the present crisis by leaving his eldest son, 29-year-old King Baudouin, free to exercise the Royal prerogative alone.

Popular feeling is still not appeased over the wedding by the Pope July 1 of Prince Albert, Heir Presumptive, to Princess Donna Pauloa Ruffo di Calabria in the Vatican. There is still strong pressure in the Press for the marriage to be preceded by a civil ceremony to comply with the Belgian law. It is known that the Pope objects to a civil ceremony in Belgium afterwards. Ex-King Leopold has also been accused of making the wedding arrangements.

Underlying tension flared up in February when King Baudouin refused to approve the Governor's nominee for the Governor-Generalship of the Belgian Congo. One paper claimed: "In fact, it is the King's father who is governing through an intermediary".

King Baudouin at present touring America told reporters May 27 in Nebraska: "I trust my father". He repudiated suggestions that the ex-king had been acting as an "unofficial Minister".
