Mr. AHMED ANIS: "I take it that unless the Israelis respond to the call that has been put to them by Kurt Waldheim and respect, show very definite respect to resolution 338 and 337, we cannot possibly go very far. And there may yet be another round of hostilities. This is an absolute must. The Israelis have at least to show signs that they are going to carry out resolution 338 and 337. Once this is done, I think that we will then start rolling and for all I know we may then see the peace conference starting its work within a few days."

Background: Egypt accused Israel on Saturday (10 November) of trying to put obstacles in the way of Dr. Kissinger's six point Middle East plan.

The charges were made as it was announced that any signing of the agreement would be postponed until Sunday.

Egyptian officials were commenting on reports that the Israeli Government were seeking clarification of certain points in the plan.

They said that any attempt by Israel to add new article to the package would be "a waste of time and an attempt to impede the implementation of the agreement".

On Thursday, (8 November) the day that Dr. Kissinger left Egypt for Jordan after his talks with President Sadat, the Egyptian Government official spokesman Mr. Ahmed Anis warned that there might be another round of hostilities until Israel respected the call by the United Nations Secretary-General Dr. Kurt Waldheim for a return to the original ceasefire lines. This is the key to implementing U.N. Resolution 338.

SYNOPSIS: In Cairo on Thursday, Egypt's official spokesman, Mr. Ahmed Anis told world newsmen his Government still "deemed it necessary" for Israel to return to the original ceasefire lines. He said Israel should obey this call made by United Nations General Secretary Dr. Waldheim.
