MRS. BANDARANAIKE: "The tenth general meeting of the fifth summit conference of non-aligned countries is called to order. The first item on the agenda is the adoption of the final documents of the fifth summit conference, including the declaration, action programmer and resolutions recommended by the conference of foreign ministers."
SPEAKER: "The conference taking note of the consensus reached within each region regarding the election to the bureau has recommended the following countries to be elected to the bureau: Algeria, Angola, Bangladesh - to share the period of office with Afghanistan, Bangladesh taking the first-one-and-a-half years in the three year period in between summits. Botswana, Chad, Cuba, Guinea, Guyana, India, Indonesia, Irag, Jamaica, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Peru, PLO, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, vietnam, Yugoslavia, Zaire and Zambia. Comprising a total of 25 nations, geo graphically distributed in a manner approved by you, Madam Chairman, and the summit conference in accordance with recommendations already made in the first report."
MRS. BANDARANAIKE: "As the distinguished delegates will observe the conference of foreign ministers recommends that the next summit will be held in Havana, Cuba, in 1979. If I hear no objection I take it that this is all decided."
The final declaration of the non-aligned summit meeting called for an oil embargo against France and Israel for supplying arms to South Africa and also for a forward-looking economic plan for developing nations. the sharing of the three-year period of office in the Co-ordination Bureau between Bangladesh and Afghanistan is a compromise solution to both nations wishing to represent the same geographical area.
