Background: Auckland....and arriving at the city's airport on February 3rd is Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.. These were the last moments of the four-day visit.....and the Royal New Zealand Air Force is about to fly her north. And Aucklands farewell comes as Her Majesty says goodbye to Lady Cobham, there at the airport with her husband, the Governor General.
Thousands had seen her during the crowded hours since she had flown in from Fiji on Saturday. Ahead of Her Majesty yesterday lay two air journeys. The first of these took her to Kaitaia, the most northern town in New Zealand, and the second took her back to Hamilton and a tumultuous reception.
After 300 miles of flying since midday, there's a greeting from the Mayor to this, the centre of Waikate Province in the north island. And 30,000 excited voices called their welcome.
Schoolchildren galore, for the Queen Mother's reception was held in the ground of the Hamilton Girl's High School. And on this day of sweltering heat, there is a presentation for her - a jewel casket, a gift from Hamilton's citizens.
They heard the official welcome by the Mayor of this rich, dairy farming district in the great plateau of the North Island. But it was essentially a day for the thousands of children there. To all in Hamilton, Her Majesty said these words.
SOF STARTS "I thank you".
