Background: Field Marshal Idi Amin, the Moslem President of Uganda, had talks on Tuesday (9 September) with the President of Italy, Giovanni Leone.
Italy is one of the few western nations with firms still operation in Uganda and the discussion between President Amin and President Leone centred on this topic.
Arrangements for President Amin's three day visit, his first trip to Italy, had to be made at short notice as the Italian Foreign Office was informed of the Ugandan leader's plans three days before his arrival.
President Amin has described the visit as part of a European tour. But he has not specified which other countries he plans to visit after Italy.
On Tuesday President Amin also inspected helicopters at a factory outside Milan and said afterwards Uganda would be buying several of them.
