Background: This week a landslide interrupted the aqueduct flowing into one of the two huge water tanks on which Naples depends for its water supply. This tank furnishes water to the low part of the city (the port and its vicinity) and a population of about 800,000 persons is at present without water.
The authorities said repair work will take a week. Water trucks make the rounds of the waterless part of the city.
Police assist queues to attempt fair distribution. Struggles in the queues are frequent.
