Background: At Fort Lamy, Chad, African presidents gathered for the conference of heads of state and heads of government of OCAMM (Organisation Commune Africaine, Malgache at Mauricionne).
Originally the conference was to have opened earlier but it was postponed until the 28th January to coincide with the celebrations for the 11th anniversary of Chad's independence. President Tombalbaye of Chad was re-elected as President of OCAMM for another term. The conference ended on the 29th January.
In his address Falilou Kane, the Secretary General of OCAMM, recorded that the conference, in its final communique, deplored the increasing interference by European leaders in the internal affairs of OCAMM states. And ha protested against the denigration of African states by (European) party politicians.
President Tombalbaye, in his closing speech, called upon the member states of OCAMM to promote the development of an African Common Market.
