Background: The Vincent O'Brien stables at Cashel, near Tipperary, are noted for turning out Grand National winners. The famous Irish trainer produced the winners of the 1953, 1954 and 1955 Nationals - Irish Mist, Royal Tan and Quare Times. Only one of his horses is entered in this year's National on March 29....and it's a little- known horse called 'Sam Brownthorn', owned by American Tim Durant. Mr. Durant, who is 58, may ride the horse himself in the Aintree thriller. Both owner and trainer are quietly confident that Sam Brownthorn can compliment the O'Brien tradition. There are 60 heroes in training at Cashel at present and work starts each day at 8 am. The Nation 'hope' certainly looks in good trim.... and must be a fair bet at around 50-1!
