The United States table tennis team returned to Hong Kong today (Saturday) from their historic trip to the People's Republic of China.
The team leaving the immigration shed at the Lowu border checkpoint, surrounded by newsmen, boarding the train, on board the train and arriving at Kowloon.

Their one-week visit - the first American sporting delegation to visit China since the Communist take-over in 1949 - has been hailed as the start in a new era in Sino-American relations.
The 15-strong team crossed the frontier into Hong Kong after a train trip from the southern Chinese city of Canton.
After completing immigration and customs formalities, they boarded another train for the one-hour trip to the Kowloon railway terminus in Hong Kong.

The team leader, Mr Graham Steenhoven, had nothing but praise for Chinese hospitality. He described the trip as the most memorable experience of his life.
