Background: Palestinian commandos on Tuesday (5 August) shelled the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmoneh. A number of Katyusha rockets hit the town, causing considerable damage.
Israeli military authorities later reported that only one man was injured in the attack, which -- they claimed -- use based from Lebanon.
The raid came in retaliation for a swift Israeli dawn attack on El-Bass refugee camp on the outskirts of the southern Lebanon city of Tyre, earlier in the day, and afternoon air attack on the refugee camp of Burghuliyeh, north of the city. Eighteen people died in the two raids, including four officers killed when artillery shells hit the Lebanese Army headquarters in Tyre.
An Israeli military spokesman later told newsmen that an Israeli patrol had also been fire on near the Lebanese border.
