Background: The Laotian Prime Minister, Prince Souvanna Phouma arrived back at Vientiane on Friday (I November) after convalescing in France from a heart attack he suffered in July.
The Prince is regarded as the father-figure of the country's delicately balanced coalition government. He was greeted by Foreign Minister Phoumi Vongvichit, a senior member of the bro.communist Pathet Lac.
In a speech to mark his return, Princes Souvanna called for solidarity among the Laotian people in solving the problems confronting the country. He said political, economic and social problems had to be tackled with circumspection and with the support of Laotians and friendly countries.
The Prime Minister described himself as being 80 per cent fit after his convalescence.
