Background: Security guards - some in uniform others in plain clothes - surround two of the world's most valuable books on exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, UK, Jan/March.

They are among other treasures from Trinity College, Dublin, Eire, on view to raise money for College library extensions. Of the GBP500,000 needed, GBP200,000 has so far been raised.

One work is the "Book of Kells", an illuminated copy of the Gospels in Latin that also contains local Irish records. For the past 300 years it has been kept in the library of Trinity College. The other book is the "Lindisfarne Gospels", on loan from London's British Museum. This was the life work of monks - they ground the colours used for the illustrations from minerals.

VISNEWS shows some of the beautifully scripted pages from the hallowed "Book of Kells"...also the oldest and most elaborately carved Irish harp in existence. It is between 600 and 700 years old. There are other valuable books, patens, flagons, cup salvers and an alms dish in the exhibition. It closes March 8.
