Background: Queen Juliana of the Netherlands celebrated the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of her accession to the Dutch throne on Thursday (6 Sept.). the day was made a public holiday, and thousands of people were in the streets to give the Queen a tumultuous welcome.

There was an open air lunch served in the Inner Court of the Parliament building which was attended by two thousand guests. The Queen, her husband Prince Bernhard, and other members of the Royal Family,. including her grandchildren, then drove through the centre of The Hague, where the cheering crowds lined the routs.

In television film, shown earlier during the week-long celebrations, Queen Juliana told her interviewer that she did not like pomp and ceremony. She described herself as "a very ordinary person" who found that sort of atmospheres "rather humiliating".

The Queen, who is 64 years old, succeeded her mother, Queen Wilhelmina, to the throne in 1948. During the television interview she denied rumours that she plans to abdicate next year.
