TRANSCRIPT: BISHOP RAMSEY: SEQ 2: "I myself prefer that it might be called the moral or theological view, and that in my mind it can be summarised like this. Whatever we do, and though it might not be necessary as a matter of strict logic, whatever we do is bound to have what I call a symbolic significance. By that I mean this.... that if we sell arms to South Africa it cannot possibly be interpreted with anything other than a measure of approval, not only for their policy of apartheid, but for the injustice and oppression by which that policy is imposed and maintained. Equally, to refuse to sell arms to South Africa is a declaration of our fellowship with the whole continent of Africa and the dark people there..... the very people to whom we took the Christian Gospel; and in this way set up bonds of fellowship and trust."
