Background: The Frigate "Nigeria" -- the largest ship in the Nigerian Navy -- was in Tema Harbour in Ghana on Thursday on her way back to Nigeria after a major overhaul in the United Kingdom.
The 2,000 ton frigate is a general purpose craft designed with anti-aircraft and anti-submarine capabilities. She is 200 feet long and carries a crew of 200 men and saw. service during the civil was with Biafra.
The ship has stopped at several ports along the African coast on the voyage to Lagos. At these ports of call visitors have been allowed aboard to inspect the ship.
This voyage is being used for the training of young officers and men.'
