Background: Viscount Montgomery Public School, Hamilton, Ontario, received a visit from the famous Second World War Commander after whom the school is named. Viscount Montgomery arrived at the school April 27, to find seven girls busy washing shirts while others prepared a mil pudding. A grade five class performed "The Emperor's New Clothes", and there was a demonstration of tumbling in the school gymnasium.
Highlight of the visit came when twelve-year-old Lorraine Kostyshyn presented Lord Montgomery with a mosaic tiles dish explaining that all members of the school's staff and all the 700 students had placed a tile in position. Lord Montgomery announced that the school would have a half-day holiday in honour of his visit.
