Background: A large number of popular army troops and civilians form the town of Sahab which lies six miles (10 kms) from Amman demonstrated in support of King Hussein on Monday (January II), while other members of the popular force uncovered a huge arms cache in Rousseifeh. Another Government discovery was that the refugee camp at Baaqua, claimed by Fatah Radio to have been destroyed, and all its inhabitants to have left, was still completely intact.

The show of support for the King and government came as a welcome sign for the resident forces of law and order. However the loyal demonstrators were asked to keep a watchful eye on the then situation of strife, but to rely on the Government for the restoration of law and order.

Since then the Jordanian Government and Palestinian Commandos have reached a new agreement under which relations between them will be laid down and an end put to recurrent clashes between the two sides.

The agreement was thrashed out at talks which have continued for several days. Even as the talks progressed there were clashes between crops and guerrillas in the streets of Amman.

A big find for loyal troops was a huge arms and ammunition cache in Rousseifeh. A Jordanian Army engineer stated that the manner in which the arms and ammunition had been stored in quantity showed a high degree of efficiency and specialisation.

The explosives uncovered could have destroyed the entire town of Rousseifeh and the nearby phosphate mines.

A claim by Fatah Radio that the refugee camp at Baaqua had been destroyed and all its occupants had left for occupied territories was proved untrue, when a unit from Jordan TV went to the camp. They found it completely intact and fully inhabited.

The recent agreement between the commandos and the government says that under a 13-point agreement a joint committee has been formed to pinpoint commando bases to which guerrillas will immediately withdraw. The agreement further stipulates that there must be no attacks on commando bases and army positions, whatever the cause.

In London, King Hussein left Hospital after a month-long medical check on Thursday (January 14). He told pressmen he hoped to be returning home within a few days.
