Background: At Thruxton Race Circuit on Monday (28 May) Australian Frank Gardner, driving a Chevrolet Camaro, won the fifth round of the British Saloon Dr. Championship. Fellow Australian Brian Muir, driving a B.M.W. 3.0 CSL, was second, and Terry Sanger, also driving a Chevrolet Camaro, was tare.
The thirty five lap race was one of the qualifying races for the ???l Automobile Club's British Saloon Car Championship for Group Two ???s.
Thirty cars lined up for Monday's race. Pole position was held by Brian Muir, having established a new lap record in practice of 1 minute ???ecs -- an average speed of over 100 miles an hour (160 kilometres) -- ???ting the previous lap record of 1 minute 24.8, held by Frank Gardner.
