STURROCK: "IT'S VERY HARD WORK. THERE ARE MOMENTS OF ENJOYMENT, BUT OVERRIDING THAT IT'S A LONG DAY FROM 7 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING TO 7 OR 8 O'CLOCK AT NIGHT."

STURROCK TALKS ABOUT HIS OPPOSITE NUMBER, INTREPID SKIPPER BUS MOSBACHER, IN THESE TERMS:

STURROCK: "HE HAS THE SAME REPUTATION. HE'S TOUGH IN THE START, AND THIS IS WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR, BOTH OF US. HE STILL PUTS THAT TOOTHY GRIN ON, EVEN WHEN HE'S IN TROUBLE. WE'VE BEEN WATCHING HIM VERY CLOSELY. WE HAVE TO WATCH EVERY START, AND FOLLOW THEM FOR THE FIRST ROUND, AND THEN WE BREAK AWAY AND GO OFF ON OUR OWN. WE PERSONALLY ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO RACING BUS ONCE MORE. WE'RE OLD FRIENDS AND ALSO OLD FOES".

    SOUND ON FILM ENDS.

INTREPID IS A NEW 12-METRE YACHT, AND BUS MOSBACHER IS A VETERAN OF THE LAST AMERICAS CUP DEFENCE AGAINST AUSTRALIA.

MOSBACHER DISCUSSED THE COMING SERIES OF RACES WITH OUR REPORTER:

    SOUND ON FILM BEGINS.

INTERVIEWER: "AS FAR AS THE BOAT'S CONCERNED - YOUR OWN BOAT, INTREPID -- HOW IS SHE AS A 12-METRE BOAT? IS SHE VERY DIFFERENT, FOR INSTANCE, FROM THE OTHER BOATS YOU'VE SAILED IN IN 12-METRE RACES?"

MOSBACHER: "YES, SHE IS QUITE DIFFERENT AND SHE SEEMS VERY MUCH FASTER -- I HOPE SHE IS."

INTERVIEWER: "IN WHAT WAY IS SHE DIFFERENT IN TERMS OF HANDLING?"

MOSBACHER: "WELL. SHE'S VERY POWERFUL BOAT, A MORE POWERFUL BOAT THAN ANY OF THE OTHERS, I THINK, AND YET SHE STILL HAS THIS WONDERFUL LIGHT WEATHER CAPABILITY."

INTERVIEWER: "BUT SHE'S ALSO OK IN HEAVY WEATHER. THERE HAS BEEN CRITICISM OF HER -- THAT SHE'S NO GOOD IN A GOOD BLOW."

MOSBACHER: "WELL, I THINK YOU'LL FIND IF YOU LOOK AT THE RECORDS, THE LAST DAY THAT WE HAD ANY BREEZE AT ALL, WE SAILED ABOUT SIX OR EIGHT MINUTES FASTER THAN ANY OTHER 12 OUT THERE THAT DAY."

INTERVIEWER: "AND AS FAR AS SAILS, RIGGING, ALL THAT SORT OF THING IS CONCERNED, YOU'RE COMPLETELY HAPPY WITH HER AS YOU STAND AT THE MOMENT"?"

    MOSBACHER: "VERY HAPPY."

    INTERVIEWER: "NO PROBLEMS?"

MOSBACHER: "OH, THERE ARE ALWAYS MINOR PROBLEMS -- CERTAINLY NOTHING MAJOR."

INTERVIEWER: "WHAT ABOUT THE DAME PATTIE? YOU'VE SEEN HER AROUND A LOT SINCE YOU'VE BEEN IN NEWPORT TAKING PART IN THESE TRIALS. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF HER AS A CONTENDER FOR THE CUP?"

MOSBACHER: "WELL, AS YOU KNOW, I WALKED DOWN THE DOCK TO SAY HELLO TO JOCK THE DAY THEY ARRIVED HERE AND HE PULLED ME ABOARD. AS YOU ALSO KNOW THERE WAS SOMEONE SITTING ON EVERY WINCH AND IN EVERY HATCH, SO THAT I DIDN'T REALLY SEE MORE THAN THEIR FACES TO SAY HELLO TO. I HAVEN'T SEEN MUCH, BUT KNOWING YOUR GANG, I'M SURE IT'S GOING TO BE A VERY TOUGH CHALLENGE.

INTERVIEWER: "AND, WHAT'S YOUR ATTITUDE TO DAME PATTIE'S CHANCES, FOR INSTANCE, IN THIS ONE? YOU'VE GOT, ANY OPINIONS?"

MOSBACHER: "WELL, I THINK WHOEVER IS THE DEFENDER OF THE CUP SHOULD BE SCARED STIFF, BUT I HOPE HER CHANCES ARE NOT TOO GOOD".
