Background: At Hong Kong's crowded Kowloon Pier, May 6, an ordinary looking launch pulled up smartly, and out stepped Miss Nancy Kwan, the "discovery" for the film "The World of Susie Wong". Nancy, who replaces France Nuyan, is in Hong Kong for a fortnight to film sequences for the film.
Nancy Kwan arrived in Hong Kong three days after the rest of the party - a minor ear infection and a heavy cold kept her longer in London than planned. At Hong Kong, the star was reunited with her family after being six months apart.
A public reception, arranged by the producers to celebrate the arrival of the Hong Kong-born Eurasian beauty in Hong Kong, and the Hollywood ballyhoo was complete with scores of photographers, cameramen, newsmen, and thousands of banner-carrying clamouring fans.
The freckled-faced beauty stayed as cool as the summer-weight cheongsam she wore as the army of eager radio men and photographers nearly jostled her into the sea.
Nancy spoke in Cantonese most of the time. She said she was looking forward to consuming huge quantities of Hong Kong Chinese delicacy "Chow Fan". "Nothing in the world can beat the food in Hong Kong," she said rather proudly.
