He inspected members of the Border Police and the Bundeswehr (Federal Defense Force) ... and met a group of orphans who had came to wish him a happy birthday. The Chancellor returned the Compliment with a bar of chocolate for each child. Dr. Adenauer's own grandchildren presented him with a cushion.
Among the other callers; Federal President Dr. Heinrich Lubke; Dr. Otto Dibelius, Bishop of Berlin-Brandenburg, and leader of the German Evangelical church; foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Heinrich von Brentano; Vice-President of the Bundestag (Federal Diet) Professor Carlo Schmidt; Minister of the Interior Dr. Gerhard Schroeder; Minister of Economics Affairs Dr. Ludwig Erhard; and the Mayor of West Berlin, Herr Willy Brandt. State Secretary Globke was another caller.
