Background: Comedian Charlie Chaplin, who decided to leave the warmth of his Swiss lakeside residence for a holiday in Ireland, was filmed July 19 receiving instruction in the fine art of Salmon fishing from Tom O'Sullivan, pride of the fish-minded locals in Waterville, County Kerry.
With his wife and seven children, the famous film actor, now 71 years old, told pressmen that he plans to produce one more film. He would not be drawn on the subject. Chaplin is remembered as the broken down comic of the silent screen, always wearing the same baggy trousers, with a bowler hat and cane.
Asked to comment on present day American films Chaplin said they are all the same, "working the bible to death". The British born comedian made his name in the United States, but left that country several years ago when he was accused of being a communist. Chaplin, when questioned about it, said he had been labeled many things but he remained only a clown.
