Background: The closing session of the seventeenth conference of Federation of Interamerican Layers was held at the Legislative Palace in quito, Ecuador last Monday (8 May).

The conference, which began on April 24, was attended by 500 delegates from various Latin American countries, as well as from Canda which joined the federation this year.

The final session heard closing remarks from the representative of Peru--who is also the President of the Federation--the Secretary General of the Federation, and the Mayor of Quito.

The Federation came into existence 32 years ago, and delegates said this year's conference was one of the best. The main topic discussed by lawyers was maritime law. Before returning home, the delegates attended a gala banquet in Quito.

SYNOPSIS: Last Monday at the Legislative Palace in Quito, Ecuador, 500 delegates met for the closing session of a conference held by the Federation of Interamerican Lawyers.

Final directives were read by the representative from Peru who is also the Federation's President.

It was the seventeenth conference to be held by the Federation since its founding 32 years ago....the delegates, from various Latin American and Caribbean nations, said this year's conference was one of the best ever. The most important topic discussed by the lawyers was that of maritime law. The final assembly was also addressed by the Secretary General of the Federation and the Mayor of Quito.
