Background: President Sadat of the UAR and President Tito of Yugoslavia made a detailed review of political moves to end the Middle East crisis in talks at the Kubbeh Palace in Cairo on Monday.

President Sadat and Tito have enjoyed close links since the late President Nasser seized power in 1952. In these latest discussions, during a week's visit to the UAR, President Tito briefed the Egyptian leader on his diplomatic efforts recently on the Middle East crisis. They have included talks in recent visits to West Germany, Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg.

SYNOPSIS: In discussions at the Kubbeh Palace in Cairo on Monday, President Tito of Yugoslavia talked to Egyptian leaders on the Middle East crisis.

Egypt's President Anwar Sadat talked with President Tito for three hours at the Palace, as he prepared to deliver Egypt's terms for a Middle East settlement to U.N. envoy Gunnar Jarring. Dr. Jarring has asked for a "declaration of intent" from the two sides. President Tito, who is on a week's visit to Cairo had said at a Cairo banquet the night before that President Sadat's proposal to re-open the Suez Canal in return for a partial Israeli withdrawal from the East bank had met with' understanding and support' from many quarters. President Sadat repeated the same evening that the Israeli withdrawal must be complete and the Palestinian problem honourably solved, if a peace settlement was to be reached.
