Some 2500 ???ers including paratroops and legionnaires searched from the Place de La Bastille, along packed boulevards to the Place de la Concords.
Later crowds danced in beflagged streets and along the Seine Embankment until the early hours of the morning.
For forth five minutes up to midnight a firework display crackled and flashed in the sky.
The festivities and the July 14 military parade are some of the most spectacular since the Revolution.
