Background: Israel today (Sunday) delayed the resumption of the Middle East peace talks. Though the Cabinet met in Jerusalem to brief Mr. Yosef Tekoah, Israel's interim representative at the talks, a ministerial split over alleged Egyptian ceasefire violations delayed Mr Tekoah's scheduled return to New York to continue the negotiations.
There are indications of differences of opinion between Defence Minister Moshe Dayan and some of his cabinet colleagues. They disagree over what policy to adopt following the lack of American reaction to reports of a continued Egyptian missile build-up in the Suez Canal zone.
General Dayan is reported to feel that Israel should suspend participation in the New York talks until the ceasefire violations are rectified.
Mr Tekoah, originally scheduled to fly back to New York tomorrow (Monday), has now postponed his return in order to attend an extra ordinary session of the Israeli cabinet on Tuesday.
