SYNOPSIS: Following a record-breaking year, the Los Angeles Lakers closed the season in a road game against the Seattle Supersonics on Sunday. The Sonics attacked early and scored first through Garfield Heard - but the Lakers wasted no time in recovering the offensive and took the attack back to the Sonic net, where Gail Goodrich scored the first of the 24 points he was to make throughout he game.
Another try by Heard missed the basket and Wilt Chamberlain got the rebound to start a Laker fast break - he was assisted by West who gave the ball to Goodrich and he scored again from the side. This kind of play is what has given the Los Angeles team its nine National Basketball Association records for the season. In slow motion we see Wilt Chamberlain take up the ball in one of the plays which has merited him the record-breaking one thousand, five hundred and seventy-two rebounds he has chalked up during the year.
Among the Lakers' records are: home winning streak - 33 games; home victories - 36; road victories - 31; and largest margin of victory - 63 points. In spite of the impressive statistics, Seattle battled bravely on - and here Jake Ford scores for the home team. But the outcome was never in doubt - and the Lakers renewed the attack, with such scores as John Trapp's lay-up, and the game ended with a resounding 124-to-98 win for the visitors.
