Background: There was a definite oriental flavour to the exciting garments launched by leading Japanese designers Kazuko and Masao Mizuno as part of their spring collection in Paris last week (23 January).
This versatile husband and wife team are leaders on the Japanese fashion scene and run the House of Mizuno in Tokyo which designs and produces not only high fashion clothes for men and women but accessories and perfume.
Mizuno specialises in combining the free moving western fashions with the best of traditional oriental styles. The overall effect is a soft delightfully feminine look that is making a big comeback this year.
Both Kazuko and Masao trained as designers in Europe and America and joined forces in 1962 to design modified western styles for Japanese women and then late modified eastern styles for western women.
In less than 10 years they climbed to the top rung of the fashion ladder in Japan and in 1971 launched their first collection in Paris. They also have a small boutique in Paris and from this salon this year introduced their second collection to be shown in France.
The collection is elegant yet simple and they have used soft fabrics such as silk, cotton and crepe as their main media.
