Background: On march 13, 1967 at 6:20 P.M. mexican time, was signed between the EUROPEAN BROADCASTING UNION and THE COMITE OLIMPICO MEXICANO(Mexican Olympic Committee) about the direct transmission by TV of the Olympic Games in 1968.
This contract has a total value of 1.250.000 USD. It was signed by EBU President, Mr. J.B.Brocksz(Dutch), (the first one in the english speech), Mr.Henrikas Slgiurdas Juskevicius(Russian), (second in the russian speech), representing EBU and by the Mexican architect Pedro Ramirez Vasquez, president of the Comite Organisador de Juegos Olimpicos(president of the organizer committee of olympic Games) in Mexico.
This contact will benefit more than 250 millions of TV european spectators who looking at 65 million of TV receptors will have the possibility to watch the olympic games right away.
The transmission will be made by cable to USA and through satellites directly to Europe. Four european stations, one in England, France, Italy and West Germany, will receive simultaneously the signal to be transmitted to the rest of the organisation.
The cost of this contract and transmission will be divided between the 23 members in a proportional way following the number of receptors registered in the country. This contract has practically close the series of contracts which were signed to transmit directly the Olympic Games from Mexico. Japan has got his rights also USA through ABC. Just now Europe is ending the series.
