Background: INTRODUCTION: Four times world champion, Harry Everts of Belgium, won the 1981 Toyota International Motocross series in Johannesburg on Saturday (19 December). He beat an international field of fifty riders to clinch the title. Everts won five of the nine races in the series.
SYNOPSIS: Hundreds of people watched the event and first into the lead was South African Tyrone Stevenson. He was closely pursued by Harry Everts and Reg Stratham from the US.
By the end of lap three of this eight lap race, Everts had closed on Stevenson and was trying to overtake on the inside.
ON lap four, Everts overtook Stevenson, who promptly fell in spectacular fashion.
Everts, riding a Suzuki, slowed down on the last lap, and took the chequered flag with ease. Second in the series was Austrian Champion, Heinz Kinigadner.
