Background: Celebrations marking the 13th anniversary of the formation of NATO and the 10th anniversary of the formation of Northern Army and Second Allied Tactical Air Force are taking today (friday).

This morning a parade was held at Rheindahlen which was attended by Herr Dr. Meyer, the Minister President of Nordrhein-Westphalia, and the ambassadors of Belgium, Canada, Netherlands and United Kingdom. Falling into 4 parts, the parade comprised an international interservice guard of honour, the ceremonial breaking of the national and Nato flags,a fly past by International aircraft and a display by military bands of the NATO nations.

A total of 120 men and five officers from five different nations make up the guard of honour. From Belgium are a contingent from the 4th Cyclists, from Canada the 1st Battalion The Queens Own Rifles of Canada, from Germany the Guard Battalion of Siegburg, the Netherlands has sent men from the Guard Battalion Fuseliers, Princess Irene and the UK men the 1st Battalion the Lancashire Regiment.
