TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 6: SALTMARSH: "WHEN DID YOU START YOUR CAREER"

CALVERT: "WELL I'VE ONLY ROWED ABOUT 20 STROKES ALTOGETHER, BUT I'VE DONE A LOT OF COXING. I STARTED ABOUT 1959 WHEN I WAS AT HIGH SCHOOL IN HOBART TASMANIA.

SALTMARSH: "OH YES. AND YOU COAXED THERE AS A SCHOOL CREW THEN DID YOU?"

CALVERT: "WE NEVER EIGHTS WE ONLY HAD FOURS. I COAXED THE 1ST FOUR, IN THE LAST YEAR THERE, AND THEN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TASMANIA I COAXED THE 1ST-8 THERE FOR FOUR YEARS RUNNING."

SALTMARSH: "WHAT DO YOU RECKON IS THE DIFFERENCE IS BETWEEN COAXING AND ENGLISH CREW AND COXING AN AUSTRALIAN CREW."

CALVERT: "WELL THE MAIN THING IS THAT AS FAR AS THE STEERING GOES. IN ENGLAND PARTLY AS UP RIVER, AS WE ARE HERE, YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE STREAM INTO ACCOUNT A HELL-OF-A-LOT, AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT AT ALL IN AUSTRALIA. ITS MAINLY EITHER (INDISTINCT) THEY ARE SLOWER FLOWING RIVERS, OR OTHERWISE ITS ON BIG ESTUARYS WHERE ITS THERE'S LITTLE TIDE AND VERY LITTLE RIVER."
