Background: Senator Edward Kennedy, in Israel on a 3-day tour at the head of a United States Senate Committee delegation to inspect health facilities, called on the Israeli Prime Minister Mrs. Golda Meir in Jerusalem on Wednesday (15 September) and later told newsmen he favoured more sales of Phantom jet aircraft and military supplies to Israel from the United States.
The Senator said that Soviet sales of arms to Egypt had upset the balance in the Middle East and that the United States should help Israel remain secure.
Senator Kennedy, in Israel for a three-day visit at the head of a United States Senate Committee delegation to inspect health facilities as part of a world tour, met the Israeli Foreign Minister Mr. Abba Eban on Wednesday for talks in Jerusalem. No official details of the talks were released to newsmen, but it is believed to newsmen, but it is believed that the two men discussed the Middle East situation and the progress made towards a possible settlements.
Senator Kennedy also visited a hospital in the Arab village of Baka El Garbya and was conducted on a tour of the buildings by hospital officials.

He added that the Soviet Union's supply of arms to Egypt had upset the United States had an obligation towards Israel.
The senator said that the discussion had covered a wide range of topics including general relations between the Soviet Union and the United States. The Senator and his Committee were scheduled to leave for Scandinavia on Thursday.
