Background: President Anwar Sadat, of Egypt, is visiting Libya for further discussions with President Muammar Gaddafi on the proposed merger between the two Arab states. The two leaders were also expected to discuss the Middle East situation.
When the two Presidents last met in Tripoli in January, they agreed that specialised committees preparing for the merger should complete their work by April. The merger is planned for I September, President Gaddafi said in January that he did not think the committee work was progressing fast enough.
It was agreed in January that the people of both countries should have ample time to study the proposed merger before a referendum is held on the proposal.
President Sadat was seen off at Cairo Airport by a party of Egyptian Government Minister and official.
