A third tanker, Scottish Lion rescued five more. Twelve others were missing.
The British naval survey vessel Dalrymple put a salvage crew on board the still blazing Polyana Oct 23 and began towing operations. These air shots indicated the fire on Polyana started in the main pump room towards the forward part of the ship and later gutted quarters in the after part of the vessel. The cargo of Iranian crude oil was unaffected.
