Background: A mixed crowd of several hundred gathered at Salisbury Airport to say farewell to Dr.Terence Ranger, lecturer at the University of Rhodesia and Nyasaland immigrant by Sir Roy Welensky's Federal Government.
Ranger, history lecturer at the multi-racial university, found disfavour with the Welensky Government for the part he played in the now-banned Zimbabwe African People's Union...an African Nationalist Party led by Joshua Nkomo.
When Zapu was banned some months ago, Ranger was one of few Europeans to face restriction like Nkomo and other African members of Zapu.
Soon after Ranger restriction order was lifted he was told he would be deported.Ranger fought the order through the Courts but it was finally confirmed.
Prominent among the farewell committee was Joshua Nkomo and other ex Zapu members. There was also a large delegation from the University College, where students and staff alike have violently condemned the Government's action in deporting the lecturer.
Ranger now files to Dar es Salaam and will visit other independent African strongholds where he is assured of royal welcome. He's expressed the hope that he'll be back to S.R.in the future and indicated that he might like to start a university in Northern Rhodesia for new African coalition there.
