    Background: In the period comprised between the months of October and April, the fishermen in the zones bordering with the Albufera, in Valencia, sail across the small interior sea in their light crafts to look for eels who are abundant during this period.

    Special tackles are employed for this particular kind of fishing, know here under the name of "mornells". The fishermen perform their task with great dexterity.

    About 50.000 kgs. of eels are captured each season. They are taken to special nurseries in wait of being transported to the markets where there is a large demand for this kind of fish, particularly in Italy where it is sold smoke to the public.
