Background: INTRODUCTION: Jordan's king Hussein has called for a change of emphasis from state-run service to production to create greater wealth for the nation. The king made his call as a meeting of newly-elected municipal councillors in Amman, the Jordanian capital, on Wednesday (13 April).
SYNOPSIS: King Hussein told the members that the state would continue to provide medical, educational and social services to citizens, but individuals must concentrate on the creation of wealth and resources to pay for prosperity and social security later. On the framework for such development, king Hussein said, the state couldn't impose anything on the country. It was up to the people to help in the process. He said the municipal councils, elected on the east bank of the Jordan in recent months, could play a leading role.
