    THE DEPORTATION ORDERS WERE ISSUED ON OCTOBER 31 BY THE SINGAPORE IMMIGRATION AUTHORITIES.THE OFFICIALS ARE TO LEAVE THE STATE WITHIN A WEEK.THEY INCLUDE THE MANAGER AND ASSISTANT MANAGER.

    BANK NEGARA, WHICH HAS ABOUT 40 LOCAL EMPLOYEES, CALLED IN UNION OFFICIALS TO DISCUSS THE RETRENCHMENT PROBLEM.THE MANAGER, WHO REFUSED TO SEE NEWSMEN, SPEND SEVERAL HOURS WITH EXCHANGE CONTROL OFFICIALS.THE BANK HAS NO BRANCHES IN MALAYA.

    IT WAS ALLOWED TO OPEN IN SINGAPORE IN 1955, FOLLOWING A VISIT TO INDONESIA BY THE THEN CHIEF MINISTER OF SINGAPORE, MR.DAVID MARSHALL.

    POLITICAL SOURCES HAVE SAID THAT THE SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT WAS NOT IN FAVOUR OF CLOSING DOWN THE BANK WHICH HAS A WELL ESTABLISHED ROLE IN TRADE BETWEEN SINGAPORE AND INDONESIA.

    HOWEVER, LAST WEEK'S CLOSING OF THE SINGAPORE TRADE MISSION IN JAKARTA, THE INDONESIAN CAPITAL, BELIEVED HELPED SINGAPORE TO BOW TO THE MALAYSIAN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT'S WISHES.

    MEANWHILE, MOVES TO CLOSE DOWN ANOTHER INDONESIAN'S STATE-OWNED GARUDA AIRLINES ARE UNDERWAY.THE AIRLINES HAS NOTIFIED THEIR EMPLOYEES OF IMPENDING RETRENCHMENT.OFFERS OF SEVERANCE PAY HAVE BEEN MADE.

    GARUD AIRLINES, WHICH SUSPENDED OPERATIONS LAST MONTH, EMPLOY ABOUT 50 LOCAL PEOPLE.
