    Background: IN SOUTH VIETNAM THE FIGHTING CONTINUES. HERE ARE SCENES TAKEN SHORTLY AFTER BITTER FIGHTING IN WHICH 63 MEN WERE REPORTED KILLED AND TWO U.S. AIRCRAFT LOST.

    AMERICAN OFFICIALS SAID THE TWO-DAY BATTLE BETWEEN VIETCONG UNITS AND AMERICAN-ADVISED VIETNAM GOVERNMENT FORCES BEGAN AFTER 200 VIETCONG WERE REPORTED ON THURSDAY IN THE TAN HOA REGION, 60 MILES (96 KILOMETRES) SOUTH WEST OF SAIGON IN THE MEKONG RIVER DELTA.

    ON FRIDAY HELICOPTERS MOVED GOVERNMENT COMMANDO UNITS ON TO THE FLANKS OF THE VIETCONG WHILE LOCAL MILITIA UNDERTOOK A BLOCKING MOVEMENT FROM THE FRONT.

    FIGHTING CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND TWO AMERICAN AIRCRAFT, A T-28 FIGHTER BOMBER AND A CLOSE SUPPORT HELICOPTER, WERE SHOT DOWN BY VIETCONG GROUND FIRE.

    TWO AMERICANS WERE KILLED IN THE HELICOPTERS, AND TWO WERE INJURED, ONE SERIOUSLY. THE TWO-MAN CREW OF THE T-28 PARACHUTED TO SAFETY.

    FRIDAY'S GOVERNMENT CASUALTIES ARE 20 KILLED IN ACTION, AND 17 WOUNDED, ACCORDING TO OFFICIAL REPORTS. 32 VIETCONG WERE REPORTED KILLED.

    IN THE FIGHTING SHORTLY BEFORE THIS FILM WAS SHOT, WHICH AMERICANS DESCRIBED AS "SEARCH OPERATIONS", II VIETCONG WERE REPORTED KILLED.

    THE NINTH DIVISION COMMANDER, COL. VINH LOC FLEW TO THE SITE OF THE BATTLE AND DECORATED A HANDFUL OF THE COMMANDOS AND TWO OF THE AMERICAN ADVISERS, CAPT. RAU AND SGT. MCCOY, FOR GALLANTRY IN ACTION. THEY WERE AWARDED THE VIETNAMESE SILVER STAR.
