KAUNDA: "The majority, if all the leaders are split in two, western countries, I think also genuinely want peace. So the question we must ask ourselves is why there are these threats of war. Why? And we, as a non-aligned country, must press hard, must give some thought, time for thinking, about these problems, and see how we can help the two power blocs, the East and West, to understand that both of them want peace. But each one of them is genuinely afraid of the other because of the big arsenals of nuclear weapons they have got in stocks. And it is important that when one side makes proposals the other side should study those proposals seriously, instead of dismissing them lightly, we, as a non-aligned country, must contribute with other non-aligned countries, especially, especially, through the foreign affairs ministers conference in New Delhi (due to be held in January 1981). We must study the problem between now and that time, and God willing, we hope no accident will happen in between."
