Background: Marina Oswald Porter, the widow of presidential assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, filed a complaint against her new husband on Wednesday (18 August). At the courthouse in Dallas, Texas she charged that he had threatened to kill himself.
Mrs.Porter telephoned the Dallas Justice of the Peace Wednesday and told him her husband, Kenneth Jess Porter, had been drinking and had threatened to shoot himself. She said he had a gun, and she feared for life and the life or her two children. After talking with Mr.Porter, the Justice issued a warrant for his arrest.Mrs.Porter then came to the courthouse and swore out the complaint.
Mr.Porter was duly arrested and spent the night in the county jail, the same prison where Jack Rugby is being held for killing Mrs.Porter's first husband.Porter told newsmen after his arrest that there was nothing to the incident."It's just time for her to have some more publicity," he said. His lawyer later said it was only "a lover's quarrel."
Marina Oswald married Porter, an electronics technician, three and one half months ago.Her two children, aged three and two, are both by her first marriage. They accompanied her to court with a couple identified only as Mr.and Mrs.Smith who served as baby sitters. The Porters live in suburban Dallas.
Porter's lawyer said Thursday that he had become angered when he returned home at lunch and discovered the children alone. He said Porter located his wife at a neighbours home and the couple scuffled when they got home.
A hearing was set for next week.
