Background: Princess Grace of Monaco died on September 14 in Monte Carlo, following a car accident in the Principality, the previous day. She was 52. A Palace spokesman said the cause of death was a brain haemorrhage. As a leading Hollywood actress, Grace Kelly announced her engagement to Monaco's ruler Prince Rainier in 1956. Her meteoric film career spanned six years and included co-starring roles with Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra in the musical 'High Society' .. with Cary Grant in 'To Catch A Thief' ... and again with Bing Crosby in 'Country Girl' for which she won an Oscar as best actress. In what was described as a fairy-tale wedding, Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier during the spring of 1956. Although much in demand by Hollywood, the Princess turned her back on a lucrative acting career to become the first lady of Monaco and the mother of three. The Rainier's first child was Princess Caroline who was born in 1957. The other two children, Albert and Stephanie are seen with the rest of the family, arriving for a picnic in 1974 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Prince Rainier's rule. Four years later, Princess Caroline married Philippe Junot, the son of a wealthy French businessman. The marriage ended in divorce. A close friend of Britain's Royal Family, Princess Grace is see here with Prince Charles and the Princess of Wales at a charity reception in London. In 1981, Princess Grace was called on to present the trophies at the famous English royal regatta at Henley, in Oxfordshire. One of her last official engagements overseas was to attend the funeral of shipping magnate C.Y. Tung in Hong Kong on April 17 of this year.
