Background: In Saigon, police say several arrests have followed the terrorist attack on the national police headquarters.A broadcast by the Communist Liberation Radio has given credit for the bombing to the Viet Cong.The broadcast said the attack was to avenge "fallen heroes" and to mark the August 16th anniversary of the 1945 uprising against the French in Hanoi.
Police Headquarters in Saigon were devastated by the bomb.The Vietnamese police said a terrorist had placed the bomb under a car in the parking lot.Four policeman were killed in the explosion, and twenty people -- six of them Americans -- were injured.
It has been reported that two Vietnamese girls acted as decoys while the terrorist planted his bomb outside the police headquarters.The group of Viet Cong escaped under cover of machine-gun fire from two cars waiting in the street.The Visnews cameraman who shot this film was man-handled by riot police, who tried to keep all photographers away.
As soon as the explosion had cleared, Saigon security police moved through the building, salvaging what they could.Vietnamese and American military police were moved into the area to seal it off.
The Saigon police headquarters were almost completely wrecked by the explosion.
