Background: Guinean President Ahmed Sekou Toure has made a brief visit to Zaire to repay an old diplomatic debt. He was returning the visit Zaire's President Mobutu made to Guinea seven years ago.
SYNOPSIS: It was President Sekou Toure's first visit since Zaire's independence. On arrival in Kinshasa he was met by President Mobutu and given a full ceremonial welcome.
In 1972 Mr Mobutu made a state visit to Guinea. But until this week Mr Sekou Toure had been too busy to repay it. He flew to Kinshasa from Brazzaville in the Congo where he'd been having talks with Congolese President Sasou Nguessou and President Kerekou of Benin. They'd been discussing the setting up of an African peace-keeping force in Chad where a new government is trying to restore order after 19-years of civil war.
President Sekou Toure stayed only a few hours in Zaire, but promised to make a longer visit in January.
