Background: The baseball World Series began Oct 5th, in Pittsburgh. The whole of America is watching telecasts of this, the biggest, most important American sporting event of the year.
There are two baseball leagues in the USA - the American League and the National League, each with 8 teams. Winners of each league annually meet in the World Series. Games are played in the home town of each - a total of seven games. The winner is the first team to win four games out, of the seven. First two games this year are being played in Pittsburgh, the home of the 'Pittsburgh Pirates', the following three will be played in New York, home ground of the redoubtable 'Yankees', and then, if necessary, the game will return to Pittsburgh.
This is the first try at the World Series for the Pittsburgh Pirates' since 1927. And the issue seems to be "can the superior pitching (ball throwing) power of the 'Pirates' hold down the superior batting prowess of the "New York Yankees"?
Final result of first game: 'Pirates' 6 - 'Yankees' 4.
In New York it is impossible to get a hotel room as hundreds of thousands of reservations have been made for those who have, or who hope to get, tickets for the supreme American Sporting event of the year.
