Background: The spring high fashion collections are shown every year in Paris and basically nothing changes. The 'enfants terribles' like Andre Courreges and Paco Rabanne produce the gimmicks and the 'old faithfuls' like Balmain, Patou, Laroche and Nina Ricci turn out the staple diet.
The French newspaper L'Aurore reckons that there are about two and a half thousand very rich ladies left in the world today who can still afford to dress from the Paris high fashion houses. It would be reasonable to assume that a fair percentage of them turned up for Nina Ricci's show on Thursday (22 January).
And there was nothing to shock even those of the most genteel taste. The house of Ricci sticks to the classics -- and assures itself of a steady income.
They showed skirts at mid-calf length, lady-like crepe blouses, prim little cloche hats. For evening there has been emphasis on chiffon this year -- a theme which Nina Ricci also adopted. The dresses are soft, discreet and elegant - in pale pastel colours with detail in the form of delicate sequins ... or tasteful embroidery ... or a well-placed corsage.
SYNOPSIS: The look that says Paris ... and on Thursday it was the turn of the house of Nina Ricci to show their high fashion ideas for spring and summer nineteen-seventy-six. One should expect little int he way of surprises from Ricci and this year was no exception ... with the emphasis n genteel good taste and immaculate workmanship.
The Ricci look for evening carries this theme even further. Paris has gone into chiffon in a big way this year, with very soft, flattering dresses like this one in pale mauve with a tastefully sequined and embroidered bodice. The squared neckline is almost provocative .. but the overall impression is romantic .. which can't be bad in these days of inflation and austerity.
Another glamorous outfit for a grand occasion ... this peach-coloured chiffon creation shows the Ricci touch at its best. Remove the shawl and underneath there's a supremely elegant dress highlighted with some clever embroidery.
