The commandos also said they planted explosives which injured two Israelis in Jaffa. There were three bomb incidents on the first anniversary of the historic visit by President Sadat of Egypt to Jerusalem.
SYNOPSIS: The bus was travelling from the popular vacation area on the Dead Sea to Tel Aviv, and had been crowded. near the ancient biblical town of Jericho a bomb was thrown inside, killing five people. One of them was a young Belgian tourist, the others Israelis. Witnesses said the bus had stopped to set down passengers, and the man who threw the bomb escaped in a waiting vehicle.
While security forces searched for those responsible, striking doctors, summoned by telephone, raced to Jerusalem hospitals to treat the injured.
Israeli security forces questioned dazed survivors, and rounded up dozens of Arabs in the hunt for the attacker.
