Background: Belgium's King Baudouin was recently on a three day official visit to Saudi Arabia.

During the visit he had talks with the Saudi Arabian King, King Khaled Ibn Abdul Aziz in the Saudi capital of Riyadh on Wednesday (5 November). These were centred on joint development projects between the two countries and included discussions on health, agriculture, housing and building.

The Belgium King also visited the Saudi Planning Ministry and toured a number of agricultural projects in the Eastern region of the country.

A Saudi spokesman said it was hoped that the visit of King Baudouin would give impetus to the Islamic Cultural centre opened in Brussels in 1967.

SYNOPSIS: Riyadh ... the capital of Saudi Arabia and the location of a three day visit by the Belgium ruler, King Baudouin. The purpose of his visit was principally to have talks with the Saudi Arabian leader, King Khaled. They discussed joint development projects including health, agriculture, housing and building ... and other topics which Saudi officials termed of mutual interest. It was also hoped that the visit would draw attention to an Islamic Centre in Belgium.

King Baudouin also visited several projects in the country. These included a visit to the King Faisal Hospital ... which is one outlet for the free medical care for foreigners and residents provided by the country's oil revenue.

There was also some time for relaxation for King Baudouin. He took time out to enjoy one of the favourite Saudi Arabian sports ... camel riding.

Saudi Arabia's main source of revenue is oil. But the second major activity is agriculture and King Baudouin was shown some agricultural complexes ... including the Al Hassa Irrigation project.

But most of his time was spent in Riyadh. The King's visit caused ill-feeling among the Jewish community in Belgium. The Saudi Arabian authorities insisted that no Jewish journalists accompany the King on his tour and this was agreed to.
